Where did we stay?
DoubleTree By Hilton Sheffield Park
Chesterfield Road South
1 night stay in a double room cost me £55, booked through Expedia
I needed somewhere to stay when up in Sheffield for the weekend recently and the DoubleTree at Sheffield Park was not only the closest hotel to where I was going, but it was also among the cheapest. To be honest for the price I paid for this room (£55), which I booked just over 3 months in advance, I wasn’t expecting much, but it would be fair to say I was more than pleasantly surprised.
As a previous Hilton Honours club member I used to diligently collect points and made Hilton my preferred hotel on many occasions, but with a lapsed membership and a desire to stay in more independently owned and quirky hotels, It had been almost 2 years since checking in to a Hilton.
I’d never stayed in a DoubleTree before and honestly assumed it was going to be a slightly naff budget version of a Hilton, again a perception that proved to be very wrong!
As luck would have it, on check in I found out I’d randomly been selected as their guest of the day, so as well as the free cookie all guests receive, I also got a free breakfast and a free room upgrade – brilliant!
The hotel has a spa and leisure centre and whilst I didn’t get to use either of these facilities due to not having enough time, being able to use the gym and pool for just a £55 stay seemed like a bit of a bargain to me.
The hotel also offers room service, though the service isn’t 24 hours and ends at 11pm. As well as room service and of course a restaurant and bar, the hotel also offers breakfast for an additional charge.
Inside The Room
The room was very spacious and airy with the usual muted tones of a big-chain hotel, an understated yet contemporary look. The massive bed was exceptionally comfortable with plenty of pillows, the bathroom was again, very spacious with a huge shower which included a monsoon rain shower head.
The lighting in the room was good with plenty of options which allowed me to escape the harsh glare of the main lights. The air conditioning and heating worked well, the TV large with good sound and there was a mini fridge too which was handy for keeping my tonic water and Prosecco chilled.
The only minor gripe I have about my stay is that the duvet was very thin and didn’t feel snuggly, however, it did manage to keep me warm.
This is an excellent hotel that offers outstanding value for money. The rooms are large, airy and comfortable, the hotel has great leisure facilities and the staff were all very friendly.
Breakfast in the morning was a good standard and with free parking thrown in, I’ve no qualms about returning to this hotel, or indeed trying out other DoubleTree by Hilton hotels in the future.
